Egypt is home to the only vertically integrated textile industry in the Middle East from growing the finest Egyptian cotton,
to producing yarn, fabrics, ready made garments and home textiles.
Manufacturing operations in Egypt include spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing, finishing, and embroidery
Ready made garments and home furnishings are also produced.
The ready made garments subsector represents more than 70 of the entire sector in Egypt and provides more than 20 of
employment opportunities in the Egyptian labor market.
Egypt has the success factors and competitive advantages that allow this sector to grow Egypt is known for its high quality raw
materials and processes, and its skilled labor at competitive prices Egyptian cotton production and exports increased in the 2021 2022
fiscal year, with the harvested area of cotton in Egypt increasing by 30 77 to 85 000 hectares, up from 65 000 hectares the previous year.
In light of the state’s interest in developing the sector, the Holding Company for Cotton, Spinning, Weaving and Clothing has established
a new spinning mill at the Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El Mahalla El Kubra This is the largest spinning mill in the world The
factory covers an area of approximately 62 500 square meters and can accommodate more than 182 000 spinners, with an average
production capacity of 30 tons per day.
The textile industry is a key sector in the Egyptian economy, employing approximately 20 of Egypt’s industrial workforce and accounting
for 16 of industrial exports It’s worth noting that approximately 60 of garment workers are women.
