The chiller is a device for cooling using cold water, and it consists of three main components:(pumps to pump water from the building and draw back water – a water cooling device consisting of one or more compressors to cool the water – a power unit and a control panel).Water is used as a cooling medium in central air conditioning inside the spaces to be cooled. The water is first cooled while passing through the evaporator, then the cold water is pumped to heat exchangers inside the spaces to be cooled by special pumps. Heat is exchanged between the cold water and the air of the space to be cooled by fans directed at these exchangers. As for the condenser, it is cooled either by the air in the atmosphere, in which case the system is called an “air-cooled condenser system,” or by water that is pumped through special pumps that transport the water from the cooling towers to a heat exchanger, through which the condenser pipes pass to cool the coolant with water, in which case the system is called a “water-cooled condenser system.” Chillers are used in air handling units, which are a type of central air conditioning, and in fan coil units, which are a terminal unit installed directly inside the air-conditioned space or in the entire ceiling above the air-conditioned space.
